PASCO-HERNANDO STATE COLLEGE – PORTER CAMPUS AT WIREGRASS RANCH

WESLEY CHAPEL, FLORIDA

Scope:

FLA won a design competition with an innovative and relevant urban concept for the second new campus for Pasco-Hernando State College. This 100,000 GSF campus was built on a donated and previously undeveloped 53-acre site.  FLA stepped outside the box with a design solution that met both the urban context as well as the challenges of a site with severe environmental constraints.  With 2 levels of parking garage under 5 stories of classrooms, labs, offices, student services, green roofs and other related spaces, the design maximizes utilization of the site with room for future growth.  With this design, FLA reduced the footprint by 3 acres, creating a new and exciting concept for Florida college buildings.

Green roofs and spaces are interspersed on each level eliminating the silo effect, and enhancing opportunities for collaboration and learning convergence areas.  Other spaces provided in the facility include Student Services, a Library, Network Operations Center, offices, classrooms and a Central Energy Plan. The Labs are concentrated in the Nursing areas, but include Business Data Processing and Information Technology Lab Suites.

This project earned 3 Globes from the Green Building Initiative (GBI) under the Green Globes certification process.
